AFRICA BIKE WEEK 2014 - Road Closures & Traffic Flow Overview
Event Dates: 01-04 May 2014
Location: Margate, South Africa
We respectfully ask for your understanding for Road Closures & Traffic Flow Changes during the annual Africa Bike Week event in Margate which takes place from 10h00 on the 1st until 16h00 on the 4th of May 2014.
Road Closures:
From 08h00 on 1st May until 16h00 on 4th May Panorama Parade (“the event venue”) will be accessible by motorcycle vehicles OR Event Permit Holders Only.
Event Permit Holders access available between 23h00 and 08h00 only.
NOTE: unauthorised vehicles left unattended within the site venue outside these hours will be towed at the owner’s risk and cost.
Traffic Flow Changes:
Panorama Parade will adopt a One Way Only System (North to South) from Monday 23rd April 2014. Panorama Parade can be exited via Post Office Lane. Please note that Remington will be closed off for vehicles wanting to turn left onto Harley-Davidson Drive (Panorama Parade). Those vehicles will be diverted via Finnis Road.
Marine Drive for the Project Rushmore Skills Demonstration will be closed from 1) the corner of Marine Drive and Nadona Avenue 2) the corner of Marine Drive and Panorama Parade from 12h30 to 14h30 on Friday the 2nd and on Saturday the 3rd of May 2014.
Marine Drive for the Ride-in-Bike Show – Will be closed from 1) the corner of Marine Drive and Nadona Avenue 2) the corner of Marine Drive and Panorama Parade from 10h00 to 17h00 on Sunday the 4th of May 2014 for the Ride-in-Bike Show.
Panorama Parade (“the event venue”) – One Way Only from Margate Hotel until the end of the Event Site beyond Fishing Pier from 08h00 on the 23rd of April until 16h00 on the 5th of May.
From the 23rd of April (08h00) until the 30th of April (16h00) this road will be open to all vehicles however only one (1) lane will remain open to accommodate the One Way system.
From 30th of April (16h00) until the 4th of May (17h00) Panorama Parade will be closed for all vehicles except Motorcycles. Permit Holders will be allowed access after 23h00 and before 8h00 for this period.
PERMIT HOLDING SYSTEM
A permit system will be in place for the event venue for the following three groups:
- Delivery vehicles for vendors trading at the event
- Local Residents & Businesses with access only via Marine Drive to their property
- Holiday Letting Customers with access only via Marine Drive to their property
For the abovementioned vehicles access will be granted to the Event Venue (Panorama Parade) ONLY between 23h00 and 08h00 from the 30th of April until 4th of May(from 5th of May normal road access and traffic flow will resume from 16h00). On the 30th of April access will be granted only before 16h00 and after 23h00.
NOTE: unauthorised vehicles left unattended within the site venue outside these hours will be towed at the owner’s risk and cost.
Permits have to be ordered by 16th April.
No Permits will be issued after this date.
Order and Collection is as follows:
1. Delivery vehicles for vendors trading at the event

Permit to be collected from the ABW Event Team located at the Sasol Garage on Marine Drive, Margate on the 29th and 30th of April from 8h00 to 17h00. Please have Driver’s License and Registration Number ready when you collect your permit. No Permits will be issued unless you have pre-ordered them as per the process above.
2. Local Residents & Businesses with access only via Marine Drive to their property
Permit to be obtained prior to the event via Margate Business Association. Please contact Corrie on 039 3172202. No Permits will be held at the Harley-Davidson Hotel (Margate Hotel, Marine Drive, Margate) for these vehicles. Proof of residency will be required.
3. Holiday Letting Customers with access only via Marine Drive to their property
Permit to be obtained from Letting Agent via Collection Key Box at the Sasol Garage at the beginning of Marine Drive into Margate.
No Permits will be held at the Harley Hotel (Margate Hotel, Marine Drive, Margate) for these vehicles.
NOTE:
- Access to Panorama Parade via top of road at Margate Hotel.
- All other side roads between Marine Drive and Panorama Parade will be closed.
- No Permits will be held or issued on/from the Event Site.
In addition to the above please take note of the following activities during the event that will impact on traffic flow and require temporary road closures:

THE MASS RIDE WILL DEPART FROM THE SHELLY CENTRE AT 10H30. POINTS WILL NEED TO BE ACTIONED AND ROAD CLOSURES IMPLEMENTED FROM 10H00 UNTIL COMPLETION OF THE MASS RIDE.
THE LINE UP OF THE PARADE AND ESCORT WILL BE PUBLISHED ON THE WEB SITE AT WWW.AFRICABIKEWEEK.CO.ZA OR AT THE EVENT INFORMATION KIOSK NEXT TO LARRY’S.

RIDE IN BIKE SHOW FROM 12H00- 17H00.
THE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT WILL BE PATROLLING DURING THIS EVENT AND CHECKING FOR ANY TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. THIS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE DEMARCATED AREA IN FRONT OF MARGATE HOTEL THAT HAS BEEN CLOSED OFF.
