From the Chairman’s Desk.
Welcome to the first newsletter of the year and your new committee which was approved at the meeting held on Tuesday 18th March.
I had a walk about town with Corrie who introduced me to the members of the MBA but unfortunately not all the owners were present but I will visit those businesses again to introduce myself.
I drove around the beach front and I am glad to report that development has started on the urban renewal programme and observed many workers busy with machines and other work.
As a result of the public meeting a list of faults was produced which Corrie is busy dealing with and will forward onto the various heads of department at HCM and we request from the members that it would be appreciated if you do give the committee some time to follow up on our requests.
It was also agreed that a meeting will be arranged with the landlords of the restaurants and nightclubs to discuss various issues such as the noise levels, hours of closing and other issues that were raised.

PUBLIC MEETING FEEDBACK:
A public meeting was held on Thursday13th March to present to the members and local councilors a DVD which was compiled by Haydee Bothma to highlight the sad state of affairs that Margate has become due to lack of repairs, untidiness of paving, litter and poor ablution facilities at Margate Beach. The idea was to also highlight the fact that tourism in Margate is diminishing due to the unhealthy look of the town and Margate cannot continue in this way as we will end up losing a lot more visitors.
Concern was also raised that with the Easter holidays and Bike week descending upon us very soon all the broken facilities that were highlighted will not be repaired.
The message that Haydee wished to bring across is that we have to take care of Margate and cannot allow this town to be left in the state that it is and still expect people to flock to the town.
Councillor Nair, the Deputy Mayor. J. de Wet and Mr. S. Ndzimande were present at the meeting and also gave their views and an undertaking that certain repairs will be carried out and in particular the repairs to the beach facilities at Margate beach which would be completed before the season starts.
RESIGNATION
It is with regret that I inform you that our current Chairperson Ms. Gina Horne resigned her position with immediate effect.
Gina has been the Chairperson of the MBA for just over 4 years and in that time has served the members of Margate with due diligence and always had the stakeholders interests at heart. She has worked tirelessly and has attended many meetings with local councilors and municipalities in her own time to voice the concerns of the MBA members. Some meetings she has obtained positive results and others after many letters, email and telephone calls no results have been forthcoming as can been seen in certain areas of Margate.
On behalf of your fellow committee members and members of the MBA we sincerely thank her for the time, effort and dedication that you showed in your role as Chairperson of the MBA and wish you all the success for the future.
